Gilhead sea bream

The gilthead sea bream, Sparus aurata, is an important demersal commercial species, highly appreciated as food fish for its flesh.

This review aims at putting together the most updated scientific knowledge on the species, in particular as regards aquaculture production and the genetics of wild populations and hatchery stocks.

'At a glance' presents a brief overview whereas 'in depth information' provides a more detailed description of the distribution, biology, production and genetics of the species, with useful links to graphics, tables and other websites. The information is followed by an extensive list of references and related research projects.
